Samuel Jackson “S J” Akin, of Carnesville, passed away Monday evening, October 13, 2014, at the Ty Cobb Medical Center in Lavonia, GA.

Born September 22, 1930, in Franklin County, he was the son of John D. and Fannie Carroll Akin. He was first married to the late Eleanor Blackburn. He was the brother of the late John D. Akin Jr., James L Akin, and Kenneth Akin. He worked for Coats and Clark for 38 years.  He was a cattle farmer and a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Broad River Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Adams Akin, two sons and daughters-in-law Tim and Robin Akin, Lavonia, and Mark and Betty Akin, Carnesville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Stacey Hall, Carnesville, thirteen grandchildren; brother, Charles Akin, Martin, three sisters, Mary Williams, Martin, Peggy Addison, Toccoa, and Patsy Milford, Carnesville.

Services will be Thursday afternoon at 2pm at the Broad River Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Elrod. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at the home of his daughter Susan, 1484 Bold Spring Church Road, Carnesville. They will receive friends from 6 until 8pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

    S.J.”Pete” and I have been friends for many years;we attend and finished carnesville High school together. We played basketball for
    Mr.Jack Ratley and won the state!!Pete was a bright,fast competitive
    player that always made a difference.
    We often relived our high school days at our class reunion.He will
    surely be missed by all that knew him.

    My sympathies to the Akin family upon the loss of another one of our Broad River Family. As an Army vet myself, I morn the loss of a fellow freedom fighter. May God comfort you all.
