Gene Eavenson


Melvin Eugene “Gene” Eavenson, 76, of Carnesville, passed away Sunday morning, October 23, 2016, at the Athens Regional Medical Center.

Born April 30, 1940, he was the son of the late Ben and Ossie Bell Barnes Eavenson. He was the father of  the late Larry Eavenson, and brother of the late Cliff Eavenson, Reba Segars, and Rachel Eavenson. He had served as councilman for the City of Carnesville for 16 years.  He was a retired drywall contractor. He was a member of the Carnesville Church of God.

Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Randy (Donna) Eavenson, and Shannon Eavenson, both of Carnesville,  daughter , Kasey Eavenson, Royston; two grandchildren, Laura Eavenson and Justin Eavenson, and great grandchild, Olin; five brothers, Bennie Eavenson, Dwight Eavenson, Nelson, Eavenson, and Charles Eavenson, all of Carnesville, and Haskell Eavenson, Russellville, Arkansas; three sisters, Pauline Segars and Ann McCannon, of Carnesville, and Faye Phillips, Cartersville, GA.

Services will be 1pm Tuesday at the B D Ginn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Haskell Eavenson and Rev. Gary Ledford.  Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens.

The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11am Tuesday morning until the funeral at 1pm.

  3. Randy, please except my sincere condolences on the passing of your dad. He was fine man! He worked hard, and he played hard! I will always remember him from coaching baseball, stopping by South’s Chevron covered in white dust from putting up sheetrock all day,& riding motorcycles with him in North GA. My life is better for being around him that short while.

    Dear Randy,Shannon,Kasey,and Family,we were deeply sadden to hear of the passing of you Father and Brother.
    Gene has been our neighbor for more than thirty years and we have been friends for all of our lives.He was a quite man of absolute faith and as genuine honorable as we have known.He was love and respected by all that knew him and will be surely missed.

    Sam and Gene were roommates(Browns) for a while but we still talked to him almost daily. He was a very nice person and I will miss him. My Condolences on your lost.

  12. Randy I am so sorry for your family’s loss. Gene was very close to my heart and I loved to see his smiling face every morning. Brown will not be the same without him. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
