Memorial Services for Doug Thurmond, 67, of the Red Hill community, will be Saturday morning, January 31, 2015, at 11am, at the Hunter’s Creek Baptist Church.

 

 

 

 

Doug Thurmond, 67, of the Red Hill Community of Carnesville, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 30, 2014 at the Stephens County Hospital.

Born June 12, 1947, in Carnesville, GA, he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Nettie Gertrude Poole Thurmond. He was the brother of the late Bonnie Goolsby. He was retired from Patterson Pump. He served in the U S Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the Hunter’s Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son Daniel Thurmond, Carnesville; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brother John Thurmond, Martin, and two sisters, Ellen Thurmond, Red Hill, and Rachel Goolsby, Suwanee, GA.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 this Tuesday evening at the Ginn Funeral Home. His memorial service will be held at a later date.

    I am so sorry to hear about Doug. He was a great friend for many years to my dad L.C. McFarlin .
    Doug will be missed. Prayers to the Thurmond family.

    We regret to hear of Mr. Thurmond’s death. We both had great admiration for him as well as the whole Thurmond family. Our prayers are for the family’s peace at this most difficult time.

    Wonderful talk with Doug Thurmond Reunion Oct. We spoke of our Red Hill school days and memories of country fun!! Wish I had learned more about his VietNam service. He will be missed!! My heartfelt sympathies..
