Randy Cole


William Randolph “Randy” Cole, 69, of the Middle River Community, passed away Monday morning, March 23, 2015, at his home.

Born January 8, 1946, in Athens, Georgia, he was the son of the late Billy Joe and Lois Means Cole. He was a 1964 graduate of Franklin County High School and attended the University of Georgia. He was a retired cattle and poultry farmer.

A veteran of the Vietnam War who served in the United States Navy. Randy was a radio technician. His duties included radio surveillance of enemy transmissions. As such, he was the first to hear the distress calls from the U.S.S. Pueblo. He was also stationed in the Philippines, Cyprus, and Taiwan.

He is survived by his sister, Sally Cole Pope, brother in law Edward Lee Pope lll of Atlanta and a brother, Joseph Scott Cole of Carnesville. The immediate family along with many loving cousins and family friends share in our loss.

Services will be held at Ginn Funeral Home Saturday March 28th at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1:00 PM. The service will be officiated by the Rev. W. G. Edwards with music provided by cousins of the family. Interment at Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1pm Saturday afternoon until the service hour at the funeral home.

  2. To Randy’s Family, please except my condolences. I remember Randy from the days when he worked at Gillespie Bros. store in Carnesville. Although our families go way back….Middle River Church, where our grandparents attended. As I got to know him better, “Cowboy” was the name I used more. Sorry, I won’t be able to attend his service, but I wanted you know that I considered him a friend.
