Selma Ree Brown Thurmond, 81, of the Hunter’s Creek Community, Carnesville, GA, passed away Sunday morning, June 21, 2015, at the Toccoa Nursing Center.
Born November 22, 1933, in Toccoa, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arch and Bertie Mae Lawrence Brown. She was the widow of the late Silas Kendall Thurmond. They were married July 3, 1948. She was the mother of the late Judy Lynn Thurmond and Patsy Lynn Boulineau, and grandmother of the late Kenneth “P.J.” Thurmond, Mickey Thurmond, Kenneth Franklin, and Andrew Franklin. She was the sister of the late Sanford Brown, Nellie Nations, Hugh Brown, Mellie Brown, Mildred Brown, and Bobbie Jean Brown. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Dan Thurmond, Jacksonville, FL, Ed Thurmond, Carnesville, GA Jimmy Thurmond, Carnesville, GA, Roger Thurmond, Carnesville, GA, David Thurmond, Carnesville, GA, two daughters, Geneva Savage, Toccoa, GA, Cathy Thackston, Carnesville, GA, 32 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Collins and Stella Ramey, and two brothers Marvin Brown and Bennie Brown, all of Toccoa, GA.
Services will be 2pm Tuesday at the Rice Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chris Page and Rev. Gary Ledford. Burial will be in the Allens United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home and the family will be at the home of Cathy Thackston, 7888 Royston Road, Carnesville. They received friends from 6pm until 8pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
