Marie Cantrell Ayers, of Lavonia, passed away Wednesday evening, November 25, 2015, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Lavonia, GA.

Born March 1, 1916, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Casey C. and Nellie Mae Hanley Cantrell. She was the widow of the late Tom Watson Ayers, the mother of the late Bobby Watson Ayers, David Ayers, Jimmy Ayers, Ruth Andrews, Dora Jannell Ayers, and David Ayers. She was the grandmother of the late Pam Patillo.  The last member of her immediate family, she was the sister of the late Cecil Cantrell, Tiny C. Wright, Ann C. Gertman, and Bobbie C. Carnes.  She had been employed by Carwood Manufacturing in Lavonia and the cotton mill in Commerce.  She was a homemaker and member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Doug Ayers, Lavonia; and daughter, Patsy Pagan, Atlanta, GA;
seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2pm Saturday at the B D Ginn Memorial chapel with Rev. Harold LeCroy. Burial will be in the Middle River Baptist Church cemetery.

The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The families are at their respective homes. They will receive friends from 12 noon Saturday until the funeral hour.
