Ruth C. Smith
Ruth Clardy Smith, 100, of the Red Hill Community, passed away Wednesday evening, December 9, 2015.
Born August 7, 1915, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late James Robert and Florence Hill Clardy. She and her husband, the late Richard Thomas Smith were married June 10, 1934. She was the mother of Anita Looney, and the late Jimmie Keller and Ozzie Cobb. She was also predeceased by brothers Dalton, Jimmy and Dwight Clardy; sisters Gladys Smith, Essie Hill, Grace Locke, Dessie Phillips, and Floy Hembree; and son-in-law, Fritz Cobb. She was retired from Georgia Sportswear. She was a member of the Clark’s Creek Baptist Church and the Willing Worker Sunday School Class.
She was survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Lee Looney, Martin; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Rice, Dennis Honea, Ricky Cobb, Rhonda Sorrels, Renea Cobb, Beth Turner, and Kelly Fowler; fifteen great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild; one brother, Ray Clardy, Dorchester, SC; and son-in-law, Allen Keller, Toccoa, GA.
Services will be Saturday afternoon at 2pm at the Clark’s Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Britt Ginn and Rev. Alan Cole. Burial will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens North.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at the home of her daughter. They will receive friends from 5 until 8pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
