Jimmy L. Bennett, 74, of Lavonia, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014.
Born January 20, 1940, in Royston, Georgia he was the son to the late Union and Mary Thornton Bennett. He was the husband of the late Mildred Lurlene Pitts Bennett. During more than thirty years of service in law enforcement, he served as Chief of Police for the city of Canon, Chief Deputy for Sheriff Jimmie Andrews of Franklin County, and retired from the City of Lavonia, after serving as Chief of Police for 23 years. He was member of the Georgia Chiefs Association, and the Tri-State Law Enforcement Association, where he was member of the year in 1999.
He is survived by his son Chad Bennett, Carnesville; daughter, Tracey Maxwell, Hartwell; stepson, Farris Lynch, Carnesville; four stepdaughters, Vicki Saunders, Hartwell, Barbara Nash, Commerce, Brenda Barrett, Demorest, and Dale Evans, Ivey, GA; six grandchildren, Ryan Hollingsworth, Seth Hollingsworth, Tanner Bennett, Baylee Bennett, Cheston Maxwell, and Kyli Maxwell; sister, Doris Bell, Canon, and brother, Billy Bennett, Atlanta.
Services will be Tuesday morning at 11am at the B D Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, with Rev Stacey Lynch and Chad Bennett. Interment will be in the Lavonia City Cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville. The family is at the home of his son, Chad Bennett, 415 Roebuck Rd, Carnesville. They will receive friends from 6 until 8pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for the CHAMPS program, P. O.
