Mary Douglas Payne, age 93, of Carnesville, Georgia passed away Monday, November 27, 2017.

Born April 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Eva Eloise Vickery Sears Hooper and Thomas Walter Sears.  She was the wife of the late Herbert Winson Payne.  She was the mother of the late Durell Payne.  She was the sister of the late William “Bill” Sears. She was a clerk for Sullivan’s Drugs for 16 years.  She was a substitute teacher for 35 years with the Franklin County School System.  She had been a member of the Carnesville United Methodist Church since 1944.  She was a member of the Truitt Sunday School class for 44 years, the Athens Elbert UMW for 15 years, President of the Carnesville UMW for 15 years, and the Easter Star for 17 years.  She had been an active volunteer for the MVF Worker After School Program, and Cornerstone Ministries for 20 years.

She is survived by one son, Donnie Payne and wife Sharon, of Hiawassee, Ga; Three grandchildren:  Julie Payne, Leigh & Mike Blalock, and David & Kristen Payne; Four great-grandchildren:  Bradley Rogers, Hudson Blalock, Ellie Blalock, and Mary Charles Payne; Four sisters:  Nelda Taylor and Joyce Minor, of Athens, Ga; Linda Hooper, of Jefferson, Ga; and Doris Lewis, of Douglas, Ga; One brother:  Alvin Hooper, of Warner Robbins, Ga.

Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Carnesville United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow at the Franklin Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11am until the funeral hour at the funeral home. Condolences may be left at ginnfuneralhome.com. Flowers are optional but memorials may be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, 1577 Northeast Expressway, Suite A, Atlanta, GA 30329.
