Alton Pruitt McClain, 85, of the Red Hill Community passed away Tuesday morning, September 12, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, GA.
Born March 30, 1932, in Red Hill, he was the son of the late Hoyt and Lily Mullinax McClain. He was the brother of the late Ellen Smith, Hoke McClain, Solon McClain, Jim McClain, Pete McClain, and George McClain. A lifelong farmer and resident of Red Hill, he was retired from Duke Power. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Morgan McClain; two sons and daughter-in-law, Clint and Kim McClain, Longview, Texas, and Steve Sosby, Red Hill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jerry Cress, Sandy Cross, and Virginia and Gary Gibson, Lavonia; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother Joe McClain, Red Hill, and one sister Janie McGahee, Toccoa.
Services will be Thursday afternoon at 2pm at the Zidon Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Childress, Rev. Barry Porter, and Rev. Joey Stewart officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. He family is at their homes. They will receive friends from 5 until 8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome but those wishing to make memorials please do so the New Bethel Baptist Church or to Zidon Baptist Church.
