Tommie Lee Payne Macomson, 87, of Carnesville, passed away Tuesday morning, September 11, 2018 at the Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

Born September 2, 1931, in Carnesville, Georgia she was the daughter of the late Tom and Ruby Lee Browning Payne. She was the widow of the late George Thomas Macomson. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1953, a Master of Education degree in 1969, and a Specialist in Education degree in 1973. She taught school for 35 years, 34 of which were in Franklin County. She taught at Carnesville, Royston, and Red Hill Elementary Schools and at Franklin County Junior High. She was a charter member of the Georgia Beta Tau and the Fidelis Xi Chapters of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority for women educators. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Stephens-Franklin Teachers Federal Credit Union. She was a lifelong member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk, Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School Director.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, James and Dinah Macomson, Hendersonville, NC; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Jimmy Piatak, Smithfield, VA; five grandchildren, Victoria & Mike Rivoire, Carter & Hannah Macomson, Regan & Parker Oakley, Anna Piatak and Claire Piatak; and great-grandson, Hendrik Gunnar Rivoire.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 at 3:00PM at Liberty Baptist Church in Carnesville with the Rev. David Souderes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at the home. They will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8pm at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome but those wishing to make memorials please do so to the Liberty Baptist church 6077 Hwy 145, Carnesville, Georgia 30521.
