Evelyn Bryant Akin, 77, of the Red Hill Community, passed away this Wednesday morning at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, GA.
Born July 20, 1939, in Carnesville, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Mary LeCroy Bryant. She was the widow of the late Dean Akin, mother of the late Keith Akin, grandmother of the late Patience Whitfield, sister of the late Marshall Bryant, and sister-in-law of the late Joe Segars. She taught for 31 years in Gwinnett and Franklin County, and was a poultry farmer. She was a member of the Broad River Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Alan Akin, Martin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen Forester, and Lydia Bennett, both of Martin, and Sherry Whitfield, Demorest; one sister, Fay Segars, Martin; eight grandchildren, Abby Bennett, Jonathan Forester, Nathan Forester, Austin Whitfield, Caelan Whitfield, Grayson Whitfield, Tre’ Bennett, and Levi Akin: and two great-grandchildren, Gabby and McKenzie; and sister-in-law, Jean Bryant Mason.
Services will be 2pm Friday afternoon at the Broad River Baptist Church with the Rev Brandon Crunkleton. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville. The family is at the home. They will receive friends from 6 until 8pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.
