George William Sosby, Sr., of the Red Hill Community, passed away Friday evening January 31, 2020, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Lavonia.
Born July 23, 1925 in Franklin County, GA, he was the son of the late Albert Parker and Ethel Crump Sosby. He was the husband of the late Virginia Anderson Sosby, the great-grandfather of the late Landon Sosby, and was the brother late Bertie Mae McFarlin, Tom Sosby, Lucy Payne, and Joe Sosby. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a veteran of U S Army and was a member of Hunters Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include, two sons and daughters-in-law, George W. & Yvonne Sosby Jr. Commerce, GA, and Kevin & Beth Sosby, Martin, GA; three daughters and sons-in-law, Avis & Leonard Barrett, Martin, GA, Jerrie Lynn & John Collier, Toccoa, GA, and Rena & Richard Matheson, Mtn Rest, SC; Nine Grandchildren, Greta Collins, Ryan Matheson, Joshua Collier, Parker Sosby, T J Sosby, Brett Matheson, Jarrad Collier, Hillary Smith, and Tyson Sosby; seventeen great-grandchildren, Kailey, Cara, Ansley, Lara, Judd, Reagan, Kane, Case, Brady, Jaxon, Chandler, Sydney, William, Bertain, Eileen, Logan, and Savana, ; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Faye and Jerry Bennett, Toccoa; special friend, Louise Crowder.
Services will be 2pm Monday afternoon B D Ginn Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Hunter’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family are at their respective homes. They will receive friends from 2 until 5pm Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
