With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria Diane Starrett or better
known by loved ones as Nene, who left us this world on February 21 st at the age of 79, surrounded by
her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a cherished friend, and
the heart of our family.
Gloria was born on December 31 st , 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia to Lowery Tanner and Maudie
(Mama) Tanner. She married the love of her life Billy Starrett on September 1 st , 1966. Their love
introduced the world to her two children Reggie Estee Starrett and Kimberly Starrett Honeywell.
Gloria (Nene) found joy in life’s simple but most meaningful pleasures; her garden, sewing and
the love of her family. Her backyard was always in bloom, filled with different flowers and vegetables.
She took great pride in nurturing everything she planted. Whether it be a thriving vegetable garden or
freshly blooming flowers, she saw beauty in every leaf and petal.
Aside from gardening she also had a gift for crafting warmth in the form of handmade quilts,
blankets and other handmade gifts that cannot be replicated from store bought items. Every stitch
carried her love, and she was delighted to craft something special for each of us. Her creations were
more than fabric and thread; they were woven with love, patience, and the stories of our family.
She made every holiday special. From Christmas get togethers to Easter egg hunts, she always
knew how to make each moment special for everyone involved. Her hands were always busy, whether
planting something new in her yard, crafting a one-of-a-kind homemade gift, or simply holding our hand
when we needed comfort.
Her love and kindness is represented in the garden she tended, the blankets that still warm us
and the many lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in the light she brought to this world and the family
she loved; Mother Maudie Tanner, Son Reggie Starrett and wife Laura of Jacksonville, FL. Grandchildren
Austin Starrett and wife Nykki of Jacksonville, FL, Brock Starrett of Snellville, GA, Baylee Bennett of
Lavonia, GA, and Tanner Bennett of Red Hill, GA. Great Grandchildren Floren Bennett, Zealand Starrett,
and Ezmond Starrett. Siblings Beckie and Mike Clark of Jacksonville, FL, Ricky and Linda Tanner of
Danielsville, GA, and Steve and Faye Tanner of Red Hill, GA, and many other nieces and nephews. Her
family will forever cherish the warmth of her love and the beauty she brought into this world.
