Jeffrey Donald Sims "Jeff" passed away on December 26, 2022, in his sleep at his parents' home while visiting for the holidays. Even though he was currently being treated for several medical issues, his passing was sudden and unexpected. He was born on April 11, 1973, in Atlanta. He was the much beloved son of Janet and Don Sims. Heaven has gained another angel.
Jeff spent his school years in the Special Needs Department of the Gwinnett School System. He then transitioned to Hi Hope Service Center in Lawrenceville where he participated in their day program. In 2009 he was added to their residential program where he shared a home with three other adult men under the supervision of caregivers 24/7. Hi Hope provides a variety of services to mentally challenged adults.
Jeff was always an easy going, happy guy who liked to stay busy. He liked to be helpful whenever he could (including helping deliver Meals On Wheels). He was very observant of what was going on around him (didn't want to miss anything!) He was ready to go anywhere at any time as long as he got to ride along (especially in his mom's red truck). He loved eating at the Waffle House and Mexican restaurants.
He faced multiple challenges during his lifetime, but he never lost his sweet, loving nature. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was privileged to know him.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents Mabel Browne, Jessie and Tom Widener, and Jenny Moore; grandparents Mary and John Widener, Jim and Vi Sims.
In addition to his parents, Janet and Don Sims, survivors include aunts and uncles Pat Widener and Ed Barker, Gayle Sims, Ron and Marybeth Sims, Jimmie K. and Polly Sims; close cousins Mary Edna Stanley and Debbie Stecher and numerous other cousins.
Special thanks to one of Jeffs favorite caregivers, Yolonda Holmes. She and Jeff gave each other a big hug just before he went to visit his parents for Christmas. He always gave the best hugs.
Hi Hope Service Center played a very important rote in Jeffs life. Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory can mail it to 882 Hi Hope Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30043 or a donation to your local animal rescue group would be appreciated.
