He was an active member of his church, the Lions Club, and the animal rescue organization in Carnesville, Georgia, where he lived for many years. He was beloved by his family and was always ready for antics with his brothers.

Tommy was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Pamela Toney. He is survived by his four siblings and spouses, Jane Gill Ford (Jerry), David Gill (Terry), Edward Gill (Kim), and Peggy Gill Jordan (Morris). His thirteen nieces and nephews were very dear to him: Jordan Gill Cavallin, Matthew Gill, Jonathan Ford, Elizabeth Ford Beeble, Gil Jordan, Andy Jordan, Chris Jordan, Lucy Jordan Cauthen, Ryan Gill, Cameron Gill, Taylor Gill, Dillon O'Neil, and Graham Brooks.
