James Michael “Mike” Elrod, 74, of the Red Hill Community, passed away Tuesday morning, April 10, 2018, at the Anderson Memorial Medical Center, Anderson, SC.
He was born December 11, 1943, Franklin County, the son of the late Fletcher Sanders and Sara Guynell Verner Elrod. He was the father of the late Michael Daryl Elrod, and the brother of the late Norma Foster. He was a member of the FCHS Class of 1961. He a farmer, welder, and auctioneer, and operated D and M Auctions. He was a member of the Hunter’s Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Thurmond Elrod; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Richard Abreu, Gainesville, and Lisa and Brian Burns, Carnesville ; grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Evan, Maria, Mitchell, Sydney, and Ellie ;one sister, Faith Mattison, Carnesville ;four brothers, Perry Elrod, Toccoa, George Elrod, Danielsville, Weldon Elrod, Leavenworth, KS, and William Elrod, Penney Farms, FL.
Services will be Thursday at 2pm at the Hunter’s Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Huff and Rev. Jerome Hill. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at the home. They will receive friends from 5 to 8pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome but those wishing to make memorials please do so to the Daryl Elrod Scholarship Fund, 1626 Red Hill Road, Carnesville, Georgia 30521.
