Clarence Raymond Whiting, 71, of the Fairview community, passed away Sunday afternoon in Toccoa, Georgia.
Born October 9, 1947, in Lavonia, GA, he was the son of late Clarence Franklin Whiting and Sara Herring Whiting Jernigan. He was the son-in-law of the late Paul and Louise DeFoor. He was a 1965 graduate of Franklin County High School and Tri-County Tech. He was a carpenter and operated Whiting Construction and Whiting Vans. A veteran of the U S Army he served in the Vietnam War. He served in the 12B20 Combat Engineers in his stay in Vietnam. Raymond loved fishing and hunting with friends and family, especially son Chris, and grandsons, Dylan, Dalton, and Neal He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette DeFoor Whiting; daughter, Renee Little, Summerville, SC; son, Chris Whiting, Lavonia; three grandchildren, Neal, Dylan, and Dalton; step-father, Richard Jernigan, Toccoa; sister, Kathy and Bryan Ansley, Toccoa; brother, Wayne and Vivian Whiting, Lavonia; step-sister, Shannon and Rick Moss, Candler, NC.
Graveside services with military honors will be 2pm Thursday afternoon at Franklin Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bruce Moore. Pallbearers will be Howard “Red” Herring, Herman Herring, Charles Herring, Billy Herring, Chris Floyd, and Jason Whiting.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville. The family is at their homes. They will receive friends at the funeral home from 12noon until 1:30 Thursday prior to the service. Condolences may be left at ginnfuneralhome.com.
