Dorothy Redden

d. November 16, 2021

It is with heavy hearts the family of Dorothy Redden announces her passing on October 15, 2021.

Born October 25, 1928, in Honey Island, Tesxas, she was the daughter of the late Mitchel and Lela Middleton Gandy. She was the widow of the late Paul Edward Redden; mother of the late Paul Edward Redden Jr; grandson, Paul Hampton Redden; and sister of the late Betty G. Jasinski. She was a comptroller with Montgomery Ward of Tampa, FL, and office manager for William Faust MD. She and her husband Paul were cattle farmers in Franklin County and was a member of the Franklin County Cattleman's Association.

Nanny Dot, as known by her great-grandchildren, was the foundation for her family. Always there to help, provide guidance, and love, her presence will leave a permanent void in our lives that simply will never be filled. Every morning for the past eleven years, Nanny Dot would read from a calendar called, “A Closer Walk With Thee.”

On the day of her passing, the message was a simple recipe for a happy family, and we would like to share it because it described our Nanny Dot perfectly.  In a large bowl of Love, mix:  2 cups of Faith, 2 cups of patience, 1 cup of sympathy;   blend in: 1 cup of forgiveness, 2 teaspoons of kindness, 1/2 cup of courage, Pour into a heart of joy, sprinkle with harmony. Top with a spread of understanding, sweeten with respect and bake in an oven of trust. Serve with a tender smile.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mary Redden, Sandy Cross; grandchildren, Jamie Redden, Phillip Redden, Marianne Redden, and Edward Redden; great-grandchildren, Wendy, Kaylah, Chase, Gracie, Samuel, and Benjamin; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Barbara Gandy, Royston, and sister Lucille Monych, Lamont, Texas.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Redden Family Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon, November 24, 2021, at 4pm, with Rev. Roger Elrod and Pastor Mike Crowe.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, 100 Arlington, VA 22203. The website is Nature.org.
