Sylvia Ann Cochran Cressler, 75, of Morristown, TN, passed away June 27, 2022.

She was born September 24, 1946, in Royston Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Aaron Sylvanius  and Mattie Ann Macomson Cochran. She was also preceded in death by many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She moved to Oak Ridge, TN in 1966 and then to Knoxville in the early 70s with her then husband, Thomas Hugh Monk, where she lived until 2019 when she moved to Morristown, TN to be closer to her daughter’s family.  She was a member of the last graduating class of Royston High School in 1964. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1970; while there she taught at Oak Ridge High School.  She was a social worker at Lakeshore Mental Institute in Knoxville before she went to work for the State of Tennessee in social services. She retired in 2011.   She loved animals and leaves behind three cats, Gracie, Shadow and Coco and one dog, Georgie. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Erin and Michael Tharp of Morristown; granddaughter, Lorelei Tharp, and grandson, Tucker Tharp, and numerous cousins and other loved ones.

Services will be Thursday at 2pm at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Asa Majors and Rev. David Souderes. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens North.

The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2pm at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please donate to Young Williams Animal Center,
